Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Local CVS drug store had no tablets displayed. But the items sold have all higher prices. Probably over $1 million dollars in inventory. Inflation or devaluation of the dollar is in the drug store.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Cheap tablets are being destroyed by adaptation of Android v2.1. then Android 4.0.

Android 2.1 had no USB, so tablet manufacturers had to add it . But that prevented Google from autoupdate the software to make tablets improving each day by WiFi connection. So, most CVS did not stock tablets anymore in 2012.

Android 4.0 had display format that made tablets less usable by area division which is superficial to have graphics colors.

Android was originally designed for cellphones. And it is still popular on cellphones. But for tablets, it needed a more robust display of data from search engines. Just to take advantage of the larger 7" screen.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Firefox download for Android tablets will keep all $75 tablets up to date on the internet via autoupdate on help and about firefox clicks.

The trouble with Android autoupdate is many due to unprofessional hacking by tablet manufacturers. Firefox autoupdate will keep tablets to work efficiently forever.

Tablets WiFi can be updated by Firefox browser to run DSSS at 11 mbps for(so far) 600 kBps(some day 900 kBps) webpage download and Firefox downloads as well.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Now that tablets and netbooks are sold for a few years, the maturity obsoletes the winCE and IE6 operating system. The Android 2.2 and 2.3 is also obsoleted due to wifi connection problems. These devcies are just not upto date by automation. Pretty much, you wasted your money playing with them for a while.

Apple tablets are the real thing for big data and now even rich experience.

The cheap tablets are not big data, nor big experience with Dolby mobile sound. Netbooks with the keyboard, what can you do with anything beyond email?

So, these cheap devices work their way out of your life. Cheap motherboards like Raspberry Pi is just cheap; not even delivered yet after all the publicity.

But, in the end, ARM cpu will replace x86 cpu for big data and rich experience.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

New tablets shown in China now are much better with capacitance touch screen. But price is doubled. Old Via ARM cpu is now only in $48 tablet. This may put pressure on iPod, unless people don't like Android operating system.

In the meantime, older laptops are still being used, and many apps and games on internet can be found in facebook account. Touch screen missing can be simulated by scroller pen moving on passive lcd screen. iPods need stylus pen too.

So, in the end, we made laptops fast enough with WiFi/b and touch with scroller pen(old or new). No use abandon those old laptops with large screen.

Footnote on turning laptops into tablets:
product: PT Pen
Cost: $199
Available: now
Source: http://www.baldtechnologies.com
company: Bald technologies

The pt pen can turn any 16" or smaller laptop screen into a stylus based touchpad. It works with a handwriting recognition software in most operating system. The position for the stylus is based on ultrasound and an overlayed screen plugged into an USB port.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Android tablets are quietly not visible in the market place. Partly killed by version 2.1, not autoupdated to keep it working(no appstore).

Newer ARM motherboards are available, but not android operating system.

In the meantime, iPads are getting more advanced in feature, more of a run away popularity contest.

The computer industry is going through a huge shift in technology. Hardware and software manufacturers were caught by surprise when sales they counted on disappeared by 10%.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

These cheap tablets at $75 from drugstores are not iPads because they are androids but not smartphones.

The future is not good for this format. Not like iPad connected to telephone company bulletin boards.

Androids has browsers that are for older websites without html5 or webGL. Because androids are Linux, browser auto update is very difficult to keep up with kernel versions.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

It is probably easier to write new operating system for cheap tablets. Now that webpages are html5 or webgL.

These tablets only need connection to 3/4G or WiFi devices.

Then webpages are displayed by html5, sound is played by audio from 3/4G native codes?

An example of these operating system had been demo-ed by QNX floppy operating system where the floppy loaded dialup modem to connect to internet, then have a simple browser to display text receive in wegpages.

Tablets are changing to WiFi internet reader.

EBay androids start about $30, 4.3" screen is best.

Fast boot into internet.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Finally bought a Coby androidv2.3.3 on ebay 7" for $15. quality is very good. Try to get gmail server to store my personal data so google will update v2.3.3. Some booting speed improvement into internet is happening(downloaded subject, htm).

Investment of these earlier tablets if updated is a good investment to replace PC which is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Coby touch screen is easier to use than most others.

Getting email on internet takes only couple of minutes, including checking ebay bids winning or not.

Due to its quick on/off internet, power switch and wall adapter wear out pretty soon.

Get ready to move on to newer model with more apps store stuffs. Many free. Many paid too, not expensive.

The worn out tablets on ebay is cheap, but its life is limited to work more for you each day.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Android tablets started at low cost mass marketing, Google managed to update,  then to keep them useful with appstores. Now used ones on ebay can be bought from $10-39. Many of them are in good shape because ebay sellers are honest in their description.

Ereaders, because of light weight requirements, tend to be limiting to do games or internet surfing. Only good for book reading.

Screen size of 8 inch is more pleasant to use(see better) for internet surfing or gaming.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

These cheap older tablets are perfect for internet surfing, but lack memory for apps. Do not add any to crash your tablet.

Some tried to think sd flash card can work, but it can not, most of the time, tablets work better without sd external.

Using it only for internet take very little time, to finish your work which keeps tablet electronics cool and operation smooth.

B/w ereader such as pandigital novel can be bought for less than $10 on ebay, What can you do beyond reading novels on a light weight ereader? email on wifi.

Soduku for game ?

webpage reading in black and white video?

Colored ereaders can do more on internet but not for games or apps for lack of system functions

Netbook was too expensive, but cheaper wince can not use better browser than ie6. So, the chrome books fate maybe the same.

Android is still phone replacement attempt. Unless it can do paperless service.

Re: Tablets $75 or less at CVS ? Netbooks too(Kmart $89) ?

Ebay sells used tablets around $30, as is ones at around $10.

Netbooks are not usable because of winCE having IE6 browser. No update to other browsers.

Old tablets and ereaders are quite usable if you do not add too many apps to run out of memory.

They are cheap to get used and can be used nicely if you learn the little trick with battery charging. use battery until you have to charge while using the tablet.

List of best 2014 tablets are all big and fast around $500. Apple iPad air is an overall winner.

But in use(getjar apps), several old tablets are best too. Pandigital supernova, Nextbook7,  Coby and even CruzT103 are mentionables.

Solar charger $15.79 at ebay is a bargain.

An external battery of good capacity with solar cells and adapters for many tablets..

How instant is all the instant chargers? No one wants it, price is very low.

Bought Energizer to test.

AA batteries are not rechargeable. Used up just sitting in the charger. Not practical to use. You have to use instantly after batteries put in.

Not  all USB port on tablets can be used for charging.

Cheapest 1350mah solar charger is only good for tablets if you get the connector all the way into the solar charger, then iPad2 also charges.  It's the best for the money with extra sensitive solar cells.

I like it best.
