Netbook and technology changed, hard to keep up ?

Netbook sales had been less popular lately. Suspected ipads killed the interest in netbooks. Others blamed on the speed of cpu. But its the low price points of tablets and distribution centers(drug stores) that made netbooks not available in general.

Tablets used low speed cpu made by ARM licensee. But it used 3/4G or WiFi to connect to the internet to download webpage fast. Touch screen input is easy to learn. Best used for email and movie watching. But can do Google search for instant knowledge to make decisions. ipTV is also available for news even from portals.

So, tablets of less than $100 has a great appeal especially using websites to do business applications or social contacts. One for all and all for one device. Battery also last much longer using slow cpus and less memory for small LCD display without VGA but hdmi.

Technology had obsoleted Intel netbook demo circuits. $3 XP is replaced by free android operating systems. Tablets are useful toys now but useful tool in the third world.

Footnote:
Slow cpu is still too fast for data transfer from internet. WiFi(faster chip is cheaper than faster cpu) speed can still improve a lot on tablets.

Re: Netbook and technology changed, hard to keep up ?

Several computer companies tried to save the netbooks by having hybrid tablets with keyboard($10) attachment. It showed in Taiwan computer exhibition of 150,000 attendees.

But obviously netbook owners warned not to buy tablets unless it is instant on. Chromebooks still takes 8 seconds to power on. The huge difference is the all day battery life especially controlling the power duration of LCD activity on the reading time of reduced pixel screen and thumbnails of last session stored in flash memory, not possible with Intel cpus with dynamic memory.

Technology has changed and software too. Tablets have scheduler(multiwindows of tasks each day) of your life as the killer application on the internet. Netbooks may have openoffice or libreoffice? Its never going back to desktop standalone isolation of yourself and your computer.

Re: Netbook and technology changed, hard to keep up ?

Netbook is dead since microsoft failed to update CE6 OS. Even back in 2012.

Android took over with google updates. Still embbeded, not all drivers included for usb devices.

This has to change by usb device makers.
