Howto install agere 7.82 in W2k ?

Agere 7.82 drivers can install many brands of orinoco wifi/b pc-cards. And in many windows operating systems; read me text reveals.

It can be installed when you download it and unzip with Ezip2000v3.5. Checkout to install. Then insert orinoco pc-card. which will trigger the add drivers process. Select the sr2.3 location to install the .inf. Then you are finished.

In the control panel, you will see wifi config? Which basically allows you to scan the unsecured hot spot. once you click upon the profile, you are connected and can browse on the internet.

If you are using two wifi cards on one hotspot, you have to make sure you have two ip addresses from the router. Sometimes, the agere driver v7.82 gets the same ip address from an atmel wifi card(both /b). This is due to using DSSS mode instead of OFDM which has more data rate assignments. Using the same data rate assignment may run into data rate synchronization errors due to different heating on different wifi chipsets. This problem is more acute when radio silence is practiced. This wrong ip address assignment can be fixed if radio on checks mac address(in cookie) of each wifi card if mac address is an encryption for unsecured hotspot?.

Re: Howto install agere 7.82 in W2k ?

W2k has most of the drivers for laptops manufactured upto 2005(Pentium III). Pentium4 chipset need special Intel drivers. But some drivers or software may need sp4 installed first to get all the dependency files.

The concept is generally install W2k and check video and audio drivers and make sure system device manager is not missing any drivers. Then install sp4. Then install any software that needed security fix and registry re-arrangement.

Agere 7.82 drivers need sp4 installed then scan radio signals for unsecured hotspot to connect for browsers.

Linksys WL54G v2.1 or v2.0 has TI chipset. In W2k, you install the drivers first. Then insert the pc-card and the operating system will find the drivers to be installed. then you scan the radio signals for free hotspots to connect.

Becasue /g uses OFDM, the wifi speed is limited to 65 kBps due to resend of too many packets. The drivers can not be fixed on DSSS mode(11 mbps) of wifi transfer, so no 550 kBps speed possible.

Otherwise its usable. If you allow Microsoft to autoupdate W2k, the driver will be able to lock on DSSS mode for faster packet transfer and no resend.

Agere v7.82 has no client manager for wXP operating system. It uses Microsoft zero config solution. Site survey is no problem.

When you install v7.82 on W2k, W98, W95 , it needs a client manager v 3.30 to do wifi site survey and connect. V3.30 is 5.1 mB long, when installed will be in Control panel.

Re: Howto install agere 7.82 in W2k ?

802.11b is now obsolete. 11 mbps is too slow.

All the 802.11G 54mbps has wpa2-psk aes encryption with password(profile). to use cable wifi router

Once profile is on record, it will boot into connection to internet. In 3 minutes after you turn on the laptop, you are on internet.
