New motherboards starting from $25 ? New memory technology ?

There are many new motherboards available on the internet, starting at $25.

These motherboards have no power supply or battery. They have USB to connect to power(AC adapter for USB) and keyboard(touch screen) and monitor(hdmi).

Most use a version of ARM cpu. Many people are tempted to use Linux desktop operating system. But their docking station limits these motherboards to the tasks you can use them for?

It is important to start with a huge flash memory(32 gB) for these motherboards to make them more useful.

Most even have Ethernet connection. It maybe more useful to have WiFi/b on board for wireless connection to networks or your own network.

We have now seen accessory kit for these motherboards. The kits can be added when you purchase the motherboard or later. The kit will define your operating system drivers.

So, the popularity is now measured in 10,000s, limited by production. As quantity increase, prices may actually increase, because of the promotional price is too low.

Re: New motherboards starting from $25 ? New memory technology ?

Raspberry Pi is now delivering but only 3000 units. the cpu is obsolete v11.

Its not quite India's tablet that is more practical for schools. But not yet for everyday life. which means, it can keep records of transactions and take pictures to store data.

It will take a few more years to get the tablets to be a secretary.

Re: New motherboards starting from $25 ? New memory technology ?

These arm cpu motherboards have sd cards as memory. SD cards have HC version that needs eight way memory access, because it is done by non-volitile srams(256 mB or more) to store memory in the HC part of the card(32 gB).

This is a major software technology, because flash transistors need rotation to extend MTBF(mean time before failure).

It also makes data compression technology more usable in SDHC cards, including booting from the non-volitile sram part of the card, which can replace ddr drams on pci bus. The new technology can be pure high speed USB bus architecture.

So, this maybe another reason of the demise of complicated(multibus) and slow(33 mhz pci) PC architecture.

Footnote:
SDHC cards started with 2 gate flash transistor data compression technology(32 gB). Today, 8 gate flash transistor has been proposed and can be manufactured. Someday, terabyte SDHC cards can be a reality.

Re: New motherboards starting from $25 ? New memory technology ?

New ARM cpu motherboards use flash cards for memory(passive not powered). These motherboards had to supply some USB power. Not all USB devices are powered. So, the cheap motherboards are not properly designed using USB 2.0 drivers. USB hubs with power often doesn't have the right drivers, and hotplug tends to freezed after connection.

But, its really simple to make sure USB drivers do not try to supply power to any USB devices, except flash cards. The drivers just make sure the USB data signal is not corrupted. Hotplugged passive USB devices will get a warning not supported by USB power supply?

This concept is important because USB 2.0 drivers can support upto 127 devices.

Re: New motherboards starting from $25 ? New memory technology ?

Flash cards are using different architecture Nor or Nand.

Suddenly, 2bits nand increased memory by better data compression; now its 3 bits, future is 8 bits(analog read & write) then hdd compression(PRML) 60% more every year. Technology and software are already there.

HDD itself will be obsoleted because flash memory is easier to make.
