Linux bug fix for pcmcia cards? first find supported cards & drivers?

The secret of doing Linux hardware compatibility test is often to find a list of supported hardware. In the laptop world is the pcmcia cards(pc-cards). Find the supported pc-cards here(last updated 2004):

http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/ftp/SUPPORTED.CARDS

THIS LIST INCLUDES MOST OF THE AVAILABLE PC-CARDS AND THE DRIVERS THAT SUPPORTED THEM.

HAVE FUN BUYING PC-CARDS. AND LOOK FOR DRIVERS IN YOUR LINUX DISTRO THAT MIGHT HAVE THESE DRIVERS.

Linux is fun only if all the hardware is supported by known drivers(2004). There have beem few new pc-cards since, except fast ethernet(gigabit) or /n WiFi pc-cards(480 mbps)..

Time to collect some pc-cards?

Buy WiFi pcmcia cards that orinoco_cs drivers supported. Remember 802.11/b is as fast as /g or /n when there are too many users on the gateway router.

Buy USB 2.0 pc-cards, if your laptop only has USB 1.1 socket.

Buy pcmcia card reader that supports HC flash cards. Avoid hdd cards, or small memory cards.

Avoid ethernet and dialup modem pc-cards, that need dongles.

There are serial pc-cards, security pccards, and external cdrom pc-cards(scsi dongle), etc..

However, a collection of pc-cards make your laptop interesting.

Today, new laptops are mostly using USB 2.0 devices. But that only means pcmcia are cheaper on ebay.
