Linux Mint v12 download 500-100 kBps, ave 1 hour finished ?

Download about an hour, using wifi/b at linux freedom mirror. Effective download rates vary quoite a lot(500-100 kBps).

This operating system was about 1.2 gB. Its getting quite popular.

The download is iso(copy an image) and has to be burned. A DVD livecd. The wifi traffic control in its way to do a very effective download speed for software download by bit torrent. Any user can have it managed by browser, using free download manager technology.

Now we can do the job of shaking down Linux int for older laptops, how compatible is the debian kernels.

Linux mint 12(32 bit) 1.2 gB long burned dvd-r on Nero, booted to run level 3, on Pentium 4 motherboard. Xinit crashed with pointer shown on center of screen(no xvesa 791).

In general, Mint 12 needs computers with duo core and 1 gB of memory minimum. So, Pentium III and 4 are no longer supported by kernel 3.0.

You can see when we shake down SliTaz 3.0 stable, how important it is to save the 1999 laptops from the land fill. And made wifi fast enough for really slow 500 mhz cpus(use wifi/b 500 kBps to speed data transfer).

Mint 12 memory requirement is more than 320 mB. some say 512 mB can run it but 1 gB is more likely better.

Once vmlinux was loaded, Subsequently all I/O errors.

Linux Mint destroyed thinkpad E525? Newegg will not allow RMA.

These are shocker for people believing Linux Mint is a safe distro. The problem arises from Intel and their contribution to their video drivers in linux kernels. On other videio chipset doing framebuffers, the power usage maybe too high. Which may overheat chipsets.

So far Linus is not able to fine tune the video drivers in kernel 3.x. But other smart distros have avoided framebuffers in the kernels.

We are sticking to kernel 2.6.24 to 2.6.32 to use some of the wifi drivers, and perhaps xvesa drivers as well.
